Donuts and Driving

Will was so excited that he and Mommy had a donut date this morning, that he offered to do the driving!

He made fast friends will an older woman at Dunkin Donuts today. She thought he was so cute and smart! Actually, the cashier loved him, too, since she gave him 8 Munchkins instead of the 5 that I promised him (and let him eat).

A Day at the Office

I was on the East Coast for work all week and then in the office all day Saturday, so Sunday was Will and Mommy day (and Daddy's day off!). Since I had a few things that I needed to get cleaned up at the office, Will said he would come with me! We packed up his Thomas bag with toys, Mommy's iPad and lunch and snacks.

After lunch and a few hours at the office, we packed up and headed to the zoo! Will got to see all of his favorites: lions, puppies (the African wild dogs), polar bears and giraffes. My legs are so tired this morning after the three laps that I made pushing the stroller trying to find the door to the indoor giraffe exhibit! It was worth it though; we saw four giraffe up close.

Who Needs a Bed?

Will currently prefers to sleep on the floor. Usually it's not as elaborate as this set up we made for him the other night. It used to be that he would lay in his bed and he would ask me to stay with him for awhile. I would lay on the pillow pet and cover up with the quilt. Now he tells me that I can sleep in the bed since he is going to sleep on the floor.

Yes It's Cold; Yes We Play Outside!

The sun came out this weekend enough to play outside. It was only about 35 degrees according to the car when we got to the park at 10 a.m., but it was fine if we stayed in the sun. The afternoon was beautiful and we played golf in the backyard, then rode the tricycle in the front yard/down the street/around to the school.

To play golf, I had to spend considerable time scooping poop. It was almost like the effort involved to get a kid into a snow suit and then only playing outside for 5 minutes! Although, we did brush Rachel while we were out back. Will and I were both covered in fur!

But, if we don't take advantage of sunny days, we would never get outside. That's why we have coats and hats and gloves!

Happy Valentine's Day

We had a low key Valentine's Day celebration at home tonight: I made pancakes that I then cut out using heart and XOXO cookie cutters and served with warmed mixed berries. Yum!

The before and after! Another satisfied customer!

Today is also the 25th wedding anniversary for Jason's parents. Happy Anniversary Ed and Hilary!

Bounce Town

We had our first kid birthday party at a professional party playground this weekend. My co-worker's daughter turned 5, so the crowd was work friends, daycare friends and their siblings. This is the picture of the party attendees. Will declined to participate in the photo op. He was just fine running wild at the party, but he if he was going to stand or sit still, he needed to cling to Mommy. There was a football game that he liked a lot in the second room. The first room had four big bouncy houses/slides that we played on for 40 minutes; the second room had three plus the football game for another 40 minutes. The third room was pizza and cake. The party participants' coats and shoes were shuffled from room to room by the party people and collected on our way out.

Can you believe that's a 2 1/2 year old scaling the ladder? I went up with him the first time (not an easy feat) but as soon as I coached him to hold on to the handles, he was just fine on his own. He slid down a few times if he lost his footing, but he got back up. On the other side is a giant slide. I would have liked to go down more than the two times I went!

A Few Pics

To appease the Will fans out there, I have posted a few random photos from the past week or two. We're in the throes of yet another busy time at work (yes, I mean we; it impacts the entire family!) so all of these photos are from bedtime.

Apparently Will has the travel bug that his parents have! He got this Thomas suitcase for Christmas and specifically requested it the other night. Requested might be the wrong word, since there was whining and tears and bath compromises all involved. He packed it with books and his Elmo phone. "Hello fans!" Will is wearing his newest "cars jammies," not to be confused with his older cars jammies in the other two photos! Ha ha.

In addition to his cars jammies, his K-State football jersey is his favorite item of clothing. Sometimes they need to be worn together!

Tomorrow we have a birthday party to attend at BouncyTown! I'm very excited that we'll have a place to burn off energy indoors, since more snow is in the forecast for tonight. I'm also looking forward to it, because several co-workers and their families are going to be there, and most of our spouses and kids have not met each other yet.

My Bike is Faster

Yesterday was a beautiful day! I had planned to take Will out in the jogging stroller so I could walk Rachel at the same time. We got off to a rough start even getting dressed to go outside, and all sorts of screaming happened when I insisted upon the stroller instead of his wagon. Our compromise that he would walk (carrying his football) along with me and Rachel. We were two houses from home when Will told me he needed his bike! Great idea actually! We went home and exchanged the football for the tricycle and were off!

Will LOVES to ride FAST! Although we made regular, but quick, stops to look at geese and ducks and to get back on course when Will veered off-road into the grass, he rode like a mad man for over 30 minutes! Once a bicyclist passed us (we were stopped) and this conversation took place:

W: He's riding a bike, too.
Me: That's right, look at how fast he's going!
W: My bike is faster.

On the last long block before our street, Will was obviously tired. He steered himself into the grass and/or bushes and fell over three times. But, each time, he laughed and said, "That was fun!" and got back on. Um, is this my child?

He got a second wind and wanted to play outside, which we did for another hour while I took the Christmas lights off of the bushes. I was hoping he'd take a great nap on the couch after all of that, but alas, it was not to be. We've given up formal weekend naps (usually only tricking him into sleeping in his car seat or the stroller due to the motion), but I thought his crazy riding would wear him out. Nope. He was sleepy, but didn't give in until 8:30 p.m. The two hours leading up to that wasn't pretty. . . .
