We met with Will's pre-kindergarten teacher for his annual parent-teacher conference. It's really quite hilarious the things that four-year olds are graded on in their "Ages & Stages Questionnaire." Our little fella received mostly high marks, but here's the recap:
Social: "Because Will has such an amazing vocabulary, it is making problem solving with his friends easier to do. He can clearly express his emotions and what he would like to happen."
Fine Motor Skills: "Will has excellent fine motor skills. He really works hard and does his best when using pencils, scissors and other small objects."
Emotional Development: "When Will is done creating he loves to show off what he has made to his friends and teachers. When it's time to clean up, he carefully places it in the bin so he can resume play at a later time."
Large Motor Development: "Will is a soccer super star. Now that the snow is melted he is on the deck forming teams and doing running slide kicks."
Language Development: "Will takes the time to think through his sentences before he speaks. His thoughts are so exact and well developed. We sometimes forget he's four. :-)"
Creative Development: "Will is more into creating rather than glue and crayon art. He can build just about anything out of some legos and wooden blocks."
He did get down graded for his lack of skipping skills. Nope, I'm not joking; that's really one of the questions! The teacher laughed about it and said that boys are gallopers instead of skippers and Will definitely fits that.
Even though Will is always going to be one of the younger and smaller kids in his class, we've always felt like he does his best when challenged and around older kids. His teacher agrees that he is definitely ready for kindergarten.
